Pre-election reminders for local party organizations

September 26, 2022

Local party organizations may support federal candidates using federally-permissible funds, but must register with the Commission if they exceed any of the following thresholds within a calendar year:

  • Raising more than $5,000 in contributions (received to influence a federal election)
  • Spending more than $1,000 on federal contributions or expenditures
  • Spending more than $5,000 on exempt party activities

Once registered, local parties are presumed to be affiliated with the state party committee and share contribution limits with it and any other registered local committees. For more information, please watch our Local Party Activity video on YouTube and visit our website.
