FEC Re-Opens Comment Period for Rulemakings

FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION REOPENS COMMENT PERIOD FOR RULEMAKINGS

WASHINGTON – The Federal Election Commission (FEC) today published notices in the Federal Register reopening the comment period in two ongoing rulemakings.  Rules defining “federal election activity” and regulating payments by state, district, or local party committees for salaries and wages of employees who spend 25% or less of their time on activities in connection with federal elections are under consideration.

Witnesses who testified at public hearings conducted by the FEC suggested that the Commission seek additional information that may assist the Commission in its decisionmaking.  Additional comments may be submitted through September 29, 2005. 

All comments must be in writing, addressed to Ms. Mai T. Dinh, Assistant General Counsel, and submitted in e-mail, facsimile or paper form.  Commenters are strongly encourages to submit comments by e-mail or facsimile to ensure timely receipt and consideration.  E-mail comments regarding federal election activity should be sent to FEAdef2@fec.gov while comments regarding party salary payments should be made to SPW2@fec.gov.  Comments may also be submitted through the Federal eRegulations Portal at http://www.regulations.gov.  Any e-mail attachments must be in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) or Microsoft Word (.doc).  Faxed comments should be sent to (202) 219-3923 with a paper copy follow-up sent to the Federal Election Commission, 999 E Street, NW., Washington, DC 20463.
