Don’t forget your disclaimers!

July 15, 2024

Remember that any public communication made by a political committee, including communications that do not expressly advocate the election or defeat of a candidate or solicit a contribution, must display the proper “paid for by” disclaimer. This includes (but is not limited to) billboards, yard signs and media advertising.

A disclaimer is not required if it can’t be conveniently printed (for example, on pens, bumper stickers and similar small items) or when its display is not practicable (such as on clothing, water towers and skywriting).

More information regarding disclaimers—including disclaimers for internet communications—is available on the Advertising and disclaimers page of our website.
