Cut-off Date for Year-End Reports

January 19, 2016

Committees often ask if they may include funds raised in January in their Year-End FEC reports. Under Commission regulations, the date of receipt is used for reporting purposes, so committees should include only those contributions received by December 31, 2015, on their January 31 Year-End report. Contributions received on January 1 or afterwards should be reported on the committee's next report, even if the check was dated or postmarked in December. For more information, see page 23 of the Campaign Guide for Congressional Candidates and this 2015 tip for treasurers. (As always, committees involved in a special election should follow the reporting schedule for that election.)
